On January 10, 2026, Marv Grace School transformed into a vibrant celebration of Nigerian culture. Students, parents, and teachers came together dressed in colorful traditional attires representing the three major ethnic groups: Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa.
A Day of Colour and Pride
The school grounds were decorated with cultural artifacts, traditional fabrics, and Nigerian flags. Each class presented a different ethnic group, showcasing the unique customs, dances, and cuisines of our diverse nation.
The Cultural Parade
The event began with a grand parade where students marched proudly in their traditional outfits. The sounds of talking drums, ekwe, and kakaki filled the air as parents cheered from the sidelines.
Traditional Dance Competitions
Students performed energetic dances representing their assigned ethnic groups. The Yoruba group performed the elegant Bata dance, the Igbo group presented the energetic Atilogwu, and the Hausa group showcased the royal Koroso dance.
Nigerian Cuisine Tasting
Parents volunteered to prepare traditional dishes for a food fair. Attendees enjoyed amala and ewedu, jollof rice, tuwo shinkafa, egusi soup, suya, and puff-puff. It was a delicious exploration of Nigerian flavors.
Art and Craft Exhibition
Students displayed artwork inspired by Nigerian culture, including beadwork, tie-dye fabrics, wood carvings, and paintings of Nigerian landmarks. Some pieces were available for purchase, with proceeds going to charity.
Lessons in Unity
Beyond the fun and festivities, Cultural Day taught our students valuable lessons about unity in diversity. They learned that despite our different languages and traditions, we are all Nigerians with a shared heritage.
Special Guest Appearance
We were honored to have a traditional ruler from the community address our students about the importance of preserving our cultural identity while embracing modern education.
Cultural Day 2026 was a resounding success, leaving everyone with beautiful memories and a deeper appreciation for Nigeria's rich cultural tapestry. We look forward to next year's celebration!
